Canned Cocktails Straight From Bartenders? Welcome, Social Hour!

There is no shortage of canned cocktails to fill your beach cooler with these days. While some are full of flavor, others simply do the trick for a day on the beach or a picnic lunch.

Now, a few New York bartenders have decided to up the ante on what’s in the cooler: Social Hour is a new line of ready-to-drink canned cocktails from Julie Reiner of Clover Club and Leyenda, in partnership with Tom Macy, Clover Club’s longtime beverage director. The new line is inspired by the duo’s favorite recipes.

“We’ve made a career crafting the perfect cocktail,” Reiner says. “This is an important distinction because we’re not a spirits or beverage company trying this out because it’s hot. We are truly cocktail makers at heart.”

Made with spirits from New York Distilling Company, Social Hour’s selection will include a Gin & Tonic, Whiskey Mule and Pacific Spritz.

Social Hour’s Gin & Tonic starts with tonic water created from scratch. It’s flavor profiles include herbaceous juniper, bitter quinine, and fresh citrus — along with some subtle floral aromas.

Social Hour’s Whiskey Mule, designed to satiate brown-spirits cocktail and a poolside sipper, balances the prickly heat from the ginger and peppery bite of the rye with bright and refreshing citrus notes.

A low-ABV option, the Pacific Spritz, an airy Aperitivo-style cocktail. Reiner and Macy put a tropical spin on the classic spritz, mixing a rosé wine blend from New York’s Finger Lakes with grapefruit, a hint of passionfruit and bubbles.

The new line is launching August 1.
