Christmas is around the corner, it’s time to hang some tinsel, string some lights and find your inner fa-la-la. The holidays are such a special time of the year and I love the feeling of magic in the air. I’ll usually find any excuse to throw a party or get-together with family and friends to celebrate those magical vibes with my favorite people. Since this years’ celebrations will be more intimate with the immediate family, kids and grandkids, we looked to Mudpie for some whimsical ways to host the holidays in 2020, sprinkled with some Christmas magic.
If you’re looking to keep it casual for Christmas brunch or dinner this year, forego a fancy tablescape for a buffet-style brunch or dinner grazing table. Guests can help themselves to your menu of holiday recipes and treats, which also gives you time to mix, mingle and enjoy family and friends.
I’m all about plaid at Christmas. There’s nothing like a good tartan or Buffalo plaid to make any table holiday festive. You can use a tablecloth, throw, tablerunner or be creative with a runner of beautiful wrapping paper to set the scene on your table.
For this table I set with Mudpie, I wanted it to have a whimsical, casual vibe. I began with layering a cream-colored throw and topped with plaid to give the table a warm and inviting look and something that would compliment the fun Mudpie, Merry Little Christmas serving sets, wooden Santa bowls, and platters, down to the whimsical Santa salt + pepper shakers. The mini-loaf pans are always a favorite and they make a great favor or hostess gift.
I layered dinner plates and Santa salad plates alongside rolled napkins tied with twine, tucked in some fresh greenery and a cinnamon stick. Next, I added fresh flowers, a few ornaments, a holiday gnome or two and candles for some easy holiday table décor.
‘Tis the season for a hot cocoa bar and especially for your immediate family, since it’s a festivity loved by both big and little kids. It’s an easy station to put together and can be set it the day or night before, giving you less things to do on Christmas day.
I set out Santa mugs, small assorted holiday bowls and bright colored pails I found at the party store. I filled them with crushed peppermint, candy canes, floating snowmen marshmallows, caramels, mini-peanut butter cups and, of course, plenty of whipped cream. Right before you’re ready to serve, mix up a batch of homemade or packaged hot chocolate and let the kids have fun topping the cups with their favorite treats.
Your work is done. It’s time to kick back, relax and enjoy the company of family and good friends. Take some time to dig into all the delicious foods, sip on a favorite beverage and indulge in all the delicious desserts and holiday cookies.
