Pink Pineapples Are A Thing And We’ll Take A Bunch

Aerosmith once sang, “pink it’s like love at first sight.” And now Del Monte Fresh Produce is bringing pink to your kitchen table in the form of its newly-released Pinkglow pineapple.

This new fruit is a novel pineapple with a pink interior, new and uniquely grown by Del Monte. It has a delicious and unique taste, with notes of candy pineapple aromatics. It is also juicer and sweeter than a traditional pineapple.

This isn’t the first time Del Monte has created a new fruit. The Gold extra sweet pineapple, which the brand brought to market in 1996, remains to be a top-seller in the U.S.

“As a leading supplier of fresh pineapples throughout the world, Fresh Del Monte is committed to continuing to invest in our pineapple research and development program to meet the ever-changing needs of our consumers,” says Pablo Rivero, vice president of marketing, North America, Fresh Del Monte. “The Pinkglow pineapple is a product we are incredibly proud of – not only for its beautiful color and delicious taste, but also because of the care that went into growing and releasing it, as well as the sustainable method we’ve enacted to produce these new pink pineapples.”

In addition to the unique taste, Pinkglow pineapples are sold without their crowns because they are grown by planting existing pineapple crowns in the ground, in an effort to increase the volume of Pinkglow pineapple crops and reduce waste.

The new pink fruit is grown in the Costa Rican jungle and has been 16 years in the making. They take up to 24 months to produce and are harvested by hand and in order to regenerate new pineapple crops.
