Three years ago, when I visited Australia, espresso martinis were all the rage. It was on that trip that I vowed to make espresso martinis on a regular basis at home.
Fast forward to 2020 and I have been incorporating more coffee cocktails into my rotation. Not only does coffee add some amplified flavor notes, but you can customize your espresso martini by using other flavors to ramp it up.
For this version, I added a banana liqueur because I love this combination together (I came to love it after I experienced this in a smoothie!).
If you do not have banana liqueur for this cocktail and you want to try it immediately without too much of a commitment, you can make a banana syrup. If you want to tailor this for the holiday season, a spiced syrup would make a nice complement as well. And, if you’re ready to get crazy, you can use another spirit besides vodka.
