If you want to change up your margarita recipe, one way to do that is to substitute mezcal in for the traditional tequila. If you are unsure about mezcal, I would suggest starting with an espadin mezcal. It is not only great for sipping, but it is also perfect for cocktails like the margarita.
I used Del Maguey Vida for this cocktail which has notes of ginger, cinnamon, sandalwood, banana, tangerine and roasted agave. I thought the tangerine note would pair perfectly with the tangerine in this margarita. If you cannot find tangerines, you can always substitute Mandarin oranges.
This is a great festive cocktail to make during Halloween or just to celebrate the Fall season.
