A New York sour on a table.

This Twist On A Whiskey Sour Can Be Customized And Still Taste Amazing

The New York sour is such a gorgeous cocktail that it doesn’t even need a garnish. The layer of red wine not only adds a pop of flavor to this cocktail it also adds a gorgeous hue.

But, before we dive deep into making it, you should know that there are several delicious options for this cocktail. Some people will add an egg white to this cocktail, which is a great option to add a velvet mouth feel to the drink. Another option is to make this with bourbon instead of the rye, depending on your personal preference. I have made this cocktail with both and they are both so delicious, it really depends what I have on hand at the time. Don’t be afraid to substitute!

Now for the hard part. Some people are scared to try to float wine in this cocktail, but it is so easy. To get it just right, I measure out the wine into a jigger then hold a barspoon over the cocktail and slowly pour the wine over the barspoon. This creates the float and will add a beautiful layer of red wine deliciousness.

While you can use any red wine you may have on hand, one fun spin on this is to use port wine. It adds a very unique flavor and elevates this cocktail.
